Plateau Ring

A client asked me to make a new ring using the gold and diamond from her engagement and wedding rings. You can see how we went about it in this short blog post.

I cast a couple in silver before going ahead with the customer’s gold, and then set one with an amethyst to see how it would look.

Because the other terminal of the ring is a flat plateau, I set the amethyst cabochon upside down so that the flat surface is uppermost. A little unconventional and it means that there’s s little less light in the stone but I felt that it complimented the design nicely and makes the ring both understated and unusual.

I have two shanks left and can set them with any stone from the list and size them to anything between a J or an Q.  Outside of these sizes it’s going to be very difficult to keep the angles and proportions correct. Having said that, if you’re desperate to have one and you fall outside of those sizes then please contact me and I may be able to find a solution.
